Keichiku Dobari Shinai. Grade AA*
*Regarding Grade AA, AAAA - the more A's the thicker the dobari is when it comes to dobari shinais. AA are Keichiku and AAAA are Madake bamboo.
The more A's, the higher the quality of the shinai; however, every individual has their preferences. Some kendoka prefer A to AAAA regardless of price and quality difference.
Please get in touch with us to customize the thickness of the tsuka and the length of the tsukagawa.

This is the shinai I prefer for regular kendo practice. I'm no expert, but thanks to Hokubei's great customer service, I could easily ask their team for what shinai would be best for my needs.
I wanted a shinai that was lighter at the top while still being affordable and sturdy, and this delivered. I'm in a more humid area so it makes care easy. It also takes harder kirikaeshi strikes on those days when they're a bit more heavy. When it comes to an everyday, trusty shinai, the women's 39 Ichikawa is a great value.
Great quality. Good weight balance between kensaki and tsuka for steady control with minimal effort, the fresh bamboo gives a great mix of hardness and elasticity for sharp & clean strikes. The AA is a nice middle ground between the super fat AAA and the subtler single A. Very satisfied. Will buy again!
This shinai is very cost effective and perfect for daily use. It’s light at the tip and sturdy at the base and perfectly balanced to the user. I am sure the more expensive shinai may offer some edges in component and quality, but this is what I prefer when it comes to practice shinai that will need to withstand keiko and numerous strikes. Will definitely buy this again!
