WE ALL MET THROUGH KENDO.

Team Hokubei Budogu.

Team Hokubei Budogu met purely through Kendo. And we just talk Kendo all day long! We love it.

  • Dr. John Chu - Ottawa, Canada

John was one of Hokubei Budogu's very first customers and now one of its most valuable friends! John actively promotes Hokubei Budogu in the Ontario and eastern Canada region and has just been awesome! His home club is Tateyama Dojo in Ottawa, but his heart will always be with the Chicago Kendo Dojo where he learned to love kendo. He currently serves on the board of the Ontario Kendo Federation.

  • Brian Shin - Washington State

Brian has been an incredible supporter of Hokubei Budogu. Together with his son, Roy, he is very active in the Kendo scene and is now an area representative of Hokubei Budogu in Washington State and Vancouver, Canada.

  • Brendan Dateling - South Africa

Dateling sensei is currently with the South African National Kendo Team, and runs the San Kawa Dojo in Johannesburg. Why South Africa? Yong Back, the owner of Hokubei Budogu, grew up in South Africa before coming to the United States back in 2002. So it was only natural to reach out to his old hometown, and connect with the Kendo community in South Africa!

  • Shion Miyashita - Team Canada

Shion Miyashita, a member of the Canadian Men's Kendo Team, has joined our team and as the eldest of our sponsored team, will take on a role as a leader. We are confident that he will be an inspiration to our current team and our future generations.

  • Juah Paik - Team Canada

Juah Paik, a member of the Canadian Women's Kendo Team, has joined our team. We hope to contribute to her Kendo journey and see her become a great role model for the next generation of youth Kendokas.

  • Taichi Matsuura - MWKF

Taichi is an awesome teen. His dedication to Kendo, his sincere personality all sums him up into a true leader in the Kendo community. If he doesn't, his dad is a nanadan, so he will be set straight non-the-less :)

  • Abigail Westblade - SEUSKF

Our youngest, but our fiercest. Abigail's dedication and efforts to Kendo is what attracted us. She is fierce on the shiaijo, yet off the court, the most bubbly person you will ever meet. An awesome golfer too. We hope to see her represent Team USA!
