Madake Dobari Shinai. Grade AAAA*
*Regarding Grade AA, AAAA - the more A's the thicker the dobari is when it comes to dobari shinais. AA are Keichiku and AAAA are Madake bamboo.
The more A's, the higher the quality of the shinai; however, every individual has their preferences. Some kendoka prefer A to AAAA regardless of price and quality difference.
Please get in touch with us to customize the thickness of the tsuka and the length of the tsukagawa.

Recently I started backup after a 10 year gap period and was asking the owner of hokubeibudogu on recommendation on shinais. Since he has an idea of my exotic style he recommended me to find balance and calmness through this particular shinai. After I was able to hold one at one of the pop-ups he offers I was hooked. I will consistently use this one for tournaments and rotate it during regular practices.
Having practiced Kendo for 40 years now, I know a thing or two about Shinai. Not only do I still practice, I train 3 times a week and enter as many competitions as I can afford to. It has been a year now since I have started to use Hitoyama. Right out of the package, it is balanced, smooth and the reverb on the Tenouchi gives a great feel for the strike. The part that defies science is that since last February I have used three Shinai. One of which went missing at an event! So the one that I am currently using since September has been through 5 tournaments (out of which I won 3 individuals and made one final) and all the practices in between. I use the same Shinai for practice and Taikai. This Shinai is a beast. I don't oil it and I often leave it in the car all day. Highly recommend and I wonder if I will ever use another Shinai again so long as this is on the market.
