"Shikai" Gi and Hakama Size Chart

Please use the size chart below as a reference to estimate the correct size for your gi and hakama. All manufacturers have a slight difference in their sizing. We have listed as many specs as possible to help you select the correct size.

A quick tip is for men to pick a hakama 5-10cm shorter than their actual height because most men wear it lower on their abdomen. As for women, picking hakama size equivalent to your actual height should be a good fit because most women wear their hakama slightly above their hip. This is only a suggestion based on our experience.

If you have a larger torso compared to the average person of equal height, please choose a larger gi.

For example, if you are 170cm, but weigh about 200lbs, and have a waist of 36in, and wear a XL t-shirt, Gi size of 3.5 and #24 hakama fits well (This is based on the owner of Hokubei Budogu – @heavymankendo)

Washing Instruction

The Shikai synthetic uniforms are created for comfort and easy care. This means washing the uniform is easier than traditional aizome indigo dyed cotton gi and hakama.

Machine wash with regular detergent makes it convenient. After the washing machine spins out excess water, you should hang it to let it dry. The material is quick-drying.

Please DO NOT iron or use the dryer machine to prolong uniform life, and avoid damage to the synthetic material (polyester blend).

The gi and hakama will not “leak” any dyes, preserving their original color for a long time.
